Podcast: Growth Mindsets and the Devaluation of Music

Entrepreneurship & Art

George, Dan and Carly talk about the first few chapters of Carol Dweck’s book and different ways they already are, or can, apply the growth mindset in their own lives. They also get into Daniel Ek’s comments about the commoditization and devaluation of music (s/o Walmart), ways to save and support the arts, and Carly shares a throwback to one of her favorite ad campaigns.

Show Notes

Three Things

Carly

Dan

  • Listening: To the Land of the Giants podcast, season two is all about Netflix and how they got to where they are today
  • Watching: Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. Dan is not normally a travel show or food show fan, but he likens watching it to eating a well balanced meal
  • Watching: Journey’s Live in Houston 1981 concert on iTunes. George gave him flak but in the spirit of growth mindsets, he will also be watching it. Also, The Sopranos final scene

George

  • Listening: To the Team Deakins podcast episode with Joel Coen which is all about creativity, collaboration and letting go of defenses
  • Sharing: Producer Keith Calder’s set of principles on how they decide whether or not to get involved in producing a film project that Andy Weissman tweeted and will be applying to his job investing as well. It’s a list George will also be adopting for his businesses and projects going forward
  • Sharing pt 2: Matthew Ryan’s tweet about Daniel Ek’s comments and quoted Ursula K Le Guin, which collectively is the definition of purpose, not product
