Podcast: Digital Scarcity and Avoiding Bright Shiny Objects

Entrepreneurship & Art

Dan, Carly and George get into digital scarcity, the confusing world of crypto, the link between sex (and sex workers) and the internet, and three named celebrities. George also talks about his latest piece about how to avoid bright shiny objects and false signals, and the three dig into the noisiness of data.

Show Notes

Three Things

Carly

  • Playing: One day soon with Unbound, a sexual wellness and toys company with some of the best visual branding and messaging she’s seen in a while
  • Listening: To Dipsea’s “short and sexy audio stories” to spark your imagination and get you in the mood, an important format considering that most visual porn is produced by and for the male gaze, and doesn’t excite many women the same way
  • Learning: With Lover, a sexual health app that acts like an on demand sex therapist

George

  • Drinking: Cynar, (pronounced CHEE-nar) is a delicious Italian digestivo that you may have to order in to your local shop, but is worth the effort
  • Wearing: His now perfectly-in-season Blundstones (which he actually wears most of the year)
  • Eating: Whatever East Boston Oysters is serving up. Before COVID, it was secret parties and popups, now it’s party packs like the orange themed Halloween package arriving this week

Dan

  • Using: His Samsung T7 SSD, an external flash based storage drive with one TERABYTE of capacity and a transfer speed of 1,000 MB per second
  • Watching: Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, on IG live where he takes questions from the masses and answers them in a smart, empathetic way -- a very refreshing change of pace
  • Listening: To John Petrucci’s (best known as the guitarist, producer, lyricist and founding member of Dream Theater) second solo album Terminal Velocity
